The Ty42 steam locomotive was a Polish steam locomotive built after World War II in the Polish factories HCP and FABLOK, based on documentation left after the German occupation, steam locomotives of the Ty2 (BR52) type. Ty2 steam locomotives were produced during the occupation for the needs of the German army from 1942.
Ty42 locomotives were produced in the period 1945-1947. Until the end of steam traction in Poland, it was the most widely used steam locomotive. The steam locomotives received a new Polish designation Ty42 and new serial numbers. The steam locomotives were built based on the documentation left behind and the collected materials and parts. The steam locomotives received several significant modifications. Popp-Coale system safety valves were installed. The locomotive cabins were built appropriately for Polish weather conditions, without unnecessary insulation and a heating system. The steam locomotive received an axle arrangement of 1’E, i.e. 1-5-0 (oOOOOO), and the Polish designation is the lowercase letter “y”. One of the Ty2 locomotives was installed as a technical monument on the premises of the former FABLOK factory.
