Oborniki Śląskie is a city in Poland, in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in the Trzebnica district, in the Oborniki Śląskie commune. The city has the rights of a rural-urban commune. The city has an area of 14.41 km2. The city’s population is 9,027 inhabitants (2023). City office: ul. Trzebnicka 1, 55-120 Oborniki Śląskie. The city is located at the intersection of provincial roads No. 340 and No. 342, 25 km from the center of Wrocław, 12 km from Trzebnica. It is 138 km to Poznań and 333 km to Warsaw.
The settlement was founded in the 13th century. City rights were granted only in Poland, in 1945. The name of the city comes from a room for farm animals, i.e. a barn. In the period 1295-1305, the name Obora was commonly used in Polish and German. The name Oborniki Śląskie has been spelled since 1847, although it was also written Obernigk. The current name was administratively approved on May 19, 1946.
Fortunately, Oborniki Śląskie did not suffer during the Great World War or World War II. That is why historical buildings have been preserved; the parish church of the Sacred Heart of the Lord Jesus, from the period 1898–1901. the church of St. Thaddeus Jude and St. Anthony of Padua, from 1906. the buildings of the sanatorium complex from the 19th century. Of course, the train station building from the 19th century is also historical. There are also historical buildings; the castle, the post office and the house of the Silesian Maidens, on Trzebnicka Street.
It can be added that during World War II, the headquarters of the 2nd Polish Army was stationed in Oborniki Śląskie.

The railway to Oborniki Śląskie was brought in 1856, i.e. at the time when Poland was under partition. Until 1945, the name Obernigk was in force.
Currently, the Oborniki Śląskie station is located on the European railway line E 59: Świnoujście – Szczecin – Poznań – Wrocław – Chałupki, which is part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN). In the Polish numbering system, it is railway line No. 271 Wrocław Główny – Poznań Główny and it is a route of national importance, with a length of 163.753 km, double-track, electrified. The maximum speed is 160 km/h.
The station in Oborniki Śląskie is very similar to the station in nearby Rawicz. It has the same size, number of storeys, a similar roof, identical layout of rooms, set on a high foundation, similar elevations with architectural ornaments. The station in Rawicz received a break from the side of the station square and the station level, which is not the case in Oborniki Śląskie. The station in Oborniki Śląskie is 8-axis, with a richly ornamented elevation, which is made in cream color. There are rustications, cornices and other ornaments. All windows are finished with a semicircle. The joinery is brown. On the side of the tracks there is a wooden roof and stairs leading to the track. However, a barrier is installed, which also discourages entry to the stairs and the track. On the southern side of the station there is an extension, which houses a restaurant and a library. There is also a roof and a decorative patio here. On the side of the station square there are three entrances, all equipped with stairs. The building contains two ticket offices, a waiting room, toilets, and railway service rooms.
Currently, there is only one island platform at the station. The platform is high. The platform edges are made of prefabricated panels, in burgundy color, with a warning line and buttons, measuring 2 m x 1 m. The rest is paved with gray concrete blocks, measuring 0.1 m x 0.2 m. A linear water drain has also been installed. The platform has been equipped with: display cases with railway information, an audio system, bus shelters with simple seats, lighting, and waste bins. Access to the platform is provided by a tunnel that connects both sides of the city. Lifts have been installed for disabled people, people with bicycles and passengers with large luggage.
The station has a storage yard with sidings and a siding with tracks leading to the PKP Energetyka section. There is a railway signal box at the station.
For 10 years, the station has served 2,600 – 3,000 passengers daily, during the day. Except for the collapse in 2020-2021, due to the Chinese virus pandemic. At that time, the station served up to 1,900 passengers per day. In April 2025, 82 trains departed from the station per day. All trains are through.
