Passenger wagons type 140A, 141A of UIC-Y standard.
The 140A, 141A type cars are the successors of the 111A, 112A type cars. This is the last series of passenger cars built according to the UIC-Y standard in Poland. Class 1 cars have 9 compartments, and each compartment has 6 individual, adjustable seats. The 141A type cars have more modern windows, characterized by increased tightness and better noise insulation. All 141A type cars have been equipped with forced air heating with an electrically powered heater. The running gear of the 141A type cars consists of two-axle 4ANc type bogies. In the period 1990-1991, HCP produced 60 cars of this type for PKP. They were factory-designated as the “Adun-x” series and equipped with forced air heating. The 2nd class type 141A car was the successor to the 112A type. They were produced in the period 1990-1992, in the number of 200 units.
The prototype of the 140A, 141A type car was built in 1989. This was a time when the communist economy was already at the bottom, and the communists had transformed into businessmen. The cars were to receive modern electronics, air conditioning, new rolling bogies, new generators and batteries. In reality, the changes were minimal. The change was the use of 6 seats in class 2, in each compartment, instead of two benches for 8 passengers. All the cars were built by the HCP plants.
The 141A type cars have a service weight of 38,000 kg. Total length 24.50 m. Width 2.91 m. Height 4.06 m. Maximum speed 160 km/h. Oerlikon (O-R) block brake. 4ANc rolling bogies. The entrance doors are hinged and folded, opened manually. The front doors have a pneumatic drive. 60 type 140A cars and 200 type 141A cars were built.
After the division of the PKP company into many companies, including PKP InterCity, the cars received new company paint. The cars were included in TLK and EIC trains. In the following years, the cars underwent numerous modernizations.
